Yes, it is more likely that the people in charge are flaming morons who do not respect the integrity of what they do and cannot command the elementary skills of management and process. Our elites are broken, we need better ones.

I'm sympathetic to the sentiment, but I don't think society can function at scale that way. I even think it might be important to have a strain of anti-institutionalists to keep the institutions honest, but I think those institutions protect us from anarchy.

ok ok ok, let me toss this out there: Part of the problem is that people running stable institutions can't recognize that they ARE running stable institutions. They think institutions are startups. There's a place for innovation and a place for boring stability. We need both.

Cargo cult startups, I don't think any of these people have ever actually worked at a startup

right, but the management class has successfully indoctrinated an entire generation of developers and business people that trying to run your election like a startup is the right way to go about things.

Not everyone should be building a startup! Not everyone can! We need a path to success for people who aren't startup types rather than lionizing a golden path of hyper-success.

There are lots of path to success that don't involve startups. I think that you're mixing up two criticisms here--idiotic management choices, and startups as tickets to wealth

Yes, there are lots of paths to success, that's my point. *Especially* in the political data world, there is a lionization of these sorts of "move fast and break things" startup patterns. Non-tech politicos see SV and want to be it... RIGHT NOW.
