I've mostly read "Consider Phlebas" but was unimpressed. Some ideas were great, but I had already absorbed them through "cultural osmosis". And sadly the space opera aspects ... bored me. I might be too old. Are subsequent novels for me?

Joseph Heath's essay about the series is perhaps better than the series itself (at least intellectually), but i for one thought Matter was really underrated and is a highly enjoyable pulpy novel (most adaptable for a movie/tv show imo)https://www.sciphijournal.org/index.php/2017/11/12/why-the-culture-wins-an-appreciation-of-iain-m-banks/ …
