interesting. i've interpreted UBI as a consequentialist motivated policy. there's a kind of optimistic assumption underlying it too though. I don't see this as actually virtue ethics though, because it assumes the presence of virtue already, rather than aiming to cultivate virtue

it's been justified on consequentialist grounds, but i assume an ultimate result of 1000/mo is to encourage the populace to cultivate virtue, by easing the burden of material existence. also i was kidding around :P

the problem is that virtue ethics is illegitimate in a popular democracy beyond a certain size, because virtue is established on the basis of difference
