my understanding is that historically, cities have lived primarily by immigration, not by reproduction not sure what happens when rural world has totally emptied into urban world. maybe automation & remote tech just reverses the process and cities empty out?

also, i think recent drops in pop fertility has a lot to do with rapid migration to cities over the past 1 or 2 gens - change in global pop that is urban now vs. 50 years ago is massive.
