definitionally each quartile contains 25% of the population these are ordinal not cardinal

But if you instead asked “How conscientiousness are you?” (conscientiousness being a normally distributed Big 5 trait) there would be way more people in the 2nd & 3rd quartiles than the 1st & 4th (if responses matched actual levels of conscientiousness).

My poll is asking: suppose there is a cumulative density function F(X) for charm, a trait denoted X. If your charm trait takes value x, into what segment does F(x) fall?
