something I find weird is that the Iran War *hasn’t happened*. We don’t even know for sure if it’ll even happen in the first place but we’re already tearing each other apart over the platonic ideal of a middle eastern war

it’s been less than 24 hours since the death of Soleimani. the situation hasn’t progressed at all beyond this man’s death. but we sure aren’t acting like it. we’re already talking about interventionism and oil profits and the military industrial complex

we’re talking about the suffering of the Iranian people *when we haven’t fired a single shot in-country*. we’ve become so disconnected from the physical reality of warfare that we don’t even need boots on the ground for society to react in the expected fashion.

in 2002, we had to spend months talking about WMDs and Saddam and then actually put boots on the ground for the war to happen. in 2020, the war doesn’t even need to happen for the war to happen. war is a spectacle and spectacle is war.
