You know Junger already knew everything he writes from personal exp and observation of society, yet he feels the need to dress it up for today's "critical readers" by citing a bunch of studies. The type of book it would've been without that window dressing doesn't exist anymore.

It's still very good, this is more of a comment on the state of literature and in which ways you're allowed to comment on the state of the world in this era than a complaint about the book.
