I think many people wouldn't even go to the trouble of trying to come up with a resolution. They just wouldn't care about any apparent contradictions in their beliefs. "Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I contradict myself, I am large, I contain multitudes..."

Really smart people do seem, marginally, a little less afraid of being inconsistent, because they know it’s unavoidable. Only a little, though.
