David French and Sohrab Ahmari being on the same side of this idiotic porn debate is a reminder of why American contemporary conservatism has lost the culture war so completely. “No to porn, yes to murderous wars of choice and oligarchy” is a banner which deserves to burn.

More fundamentally, the inability to distinguish morality from aesthetics, the crucial and important from the ephemeral and minor, the catastrophic lack of historical perspective and the easy recourse to the gun- these are signs of a movement in terminal intellectual decline.

I imagine. You have your background and I have mine, and that influences the way we see these things. But first amendment protections are an issue on which I have absolutely no give whatsoever, and that’s even before getting to my personal issues with French, Ahmari et al.

And I’ll read your blogpost; perhaps you’ll convince me. But cards on the table, the very obvious hatred of a lot of anti-porn people towards people like me (explicitly not meaning you) makes me far less persuadable than I might be towards clever work-arounds.
