hmmmmmmm wonder if its the case that 23andMe raw data have consistent orderings of chromosomal genotype across chromosomes in their genotype column gonna be pretty dysfunctional if not per ushe data cleaning and formatting takes up 90% of my time

er 90% of time exclusive of configuring my stupid ide and system generally

well fuck looks like between chip v2 and chip v5
@23andMe altered their nomenclature such that there's only an intersection of about 20% of rsids across chips hmmm1 reply 1 retweet 3 likesShow this thread -
possibilities: 1.
@23andMe are just legitimately measuring a completely different set of SNPs today (why would they do this? FDA mandate?) 2. its is actually a nomenclature shift per above tweet, iirc theres variation in naming conventions but havent thought about this in years4 replies 1 retweet 5 likesShow this thread -

This thread is the perfect mix of "hell yeah I want to follow along at home" + "what am I following along with?" Please don't lead me down any dark paths.

Replying to @_holyweather @23andMe
well how much do you know about genetics let me assume even less than me basically a SNP is a place in the human genome with common variation across people when 23andMe does a sequence they really just look at 500k-600k of these spots rather than your whole genome

whats happening here is that it seems like 23andMe changed the set of SNPs they sequence quite a lot between 2006 and 2019, not just adding new ones but also taking tons of old ones out this is a problem for me because it drastically reduces my useful data set (by about 80%)

I'm edging close to understanding here. This is new and brilliant, thanks. Good luck.
