@selentelechia fair. Personally, I'm not hung up on blood relations, but it's always exciting hearing different perspectives.1 reply 0 retweets 3 likes -

I have been biased by my upbringing and most of my genetic relatives are smart and loving and cool

there's also the thing where I feel I am best equipped to raise kids similar to myself I will probably be a fine parent for most kids I could end up with but the chances of having one I just can't help thrive increases with adoption

Part of me also feels like our upper class (not directing this at you directly, just a general comment) lost something when adoption became less frequent. In Rome, the eldest son was often adopted in the senatorial class.

presumably they adopted kids from known backgrounds I'm not gonna adopt a baby from parents who were delayed drug addicts in a family of delayed drug addicts I just can't

The emperors from the Nerva-Antonin dynasty, commonly regarded as the "five good emperors," were adopted. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nerva%E2%80%93Antonine_dynasty … Augustus was also taken from obscurity. They were chosen for their health and intelligence. Marcus Aurelius fucked it up.

Augustus was extremely not chosen for his health! And he wasn't that obscure, another Julian male :)
