@SloaneSays knows much more about this than I do because I'm dumb and haven't yet read the book she prescribed but my sense is that this isn't true--in most (historical?) cultures manhood is/was not automatic but a status that had to be attained - Show replies

I want to jump into this conversation, but I feel like it can only properly be done in person. A *lot* of my sense of masculinity came from working at a Christian boys camp that focused on fostering healthy masculinity and I naturally feel like there was a lot of benefit in that

I 100% agree. Manhood is not something you inherently develop. I wrestled my entire young life and that gave me great confidence in my own manhood where now I act however I see appropriate

I know many men that don't feel like they've "earned" they're manhood, so instead of acting appropriately to situations that arise, they act in whatever way they think will best convey their "manliness".
