Absolutely not. Trust me on this if you trust me on anything: not only is that not an answer (neither is MGTOW), but it’s not even responsive to the issue. It is in fact an enormous part of why the sort of person in that story hates themselves and everyone else, and can’t escape.

In terms of getting laid, who knows- for many people there is no answer. Not everyone gets to be loved. To be able to survive this situation- you’ve seen my other tweets on this. Find concrete purpose; admit that you see what you see; embrace an entirely separate worldview.

The mindset that person has cannot be fixed from within, because each part of it mutually reinforces a sense of worthlessness, self-obsession, a self-understanding as the villain in someone else’s story. It must be abandoned for one with different assumptions entirely.

You cannot fun your way out of a mentality which suggests that having fun means that you’re inexcusably prioritizing your own desires over the safety of those around you. All you can be is double-bound, forever strangling at every turn. It’s a deeper problem than it seems.

Yes exactly! But your new story needn't be dour and sad

True. But if you’ve spent decades alternately hating yourself, then hating yourself for thinking that you have the right to hate yourself in an endless spiral, it’s likely to still be a tragic one. And that’s alright, so long as it’s yours. What it cannot be is yet another debt.

You’re misreading me. The morally-weighted responsibility to have the Correct alternate worldview is precisely what needs to be broken to let anyone have a chance of escaping this. Things must be morally disenchanted; the private must be made private, small, and individual.

Indeed. But then again, happiness may not be the point; perhaps it is devotion to God, or the satisfaction of cultivated professionalism, or filial duty. The crushing need for happiness, channeled into vast causes which make happiness impossible, can be the frame to escape.

Happiness may come along incidentally, but only rarely can you reach it by trying (particularly not if it's tied up in the tangle you're trapped in) seek virtue; happiness may well appear, but if it didn't at least you did something worthwhile
