I’m convinced that the way my brain processes and produces language is at best highly different from the rest of the population and at worst pretty broken from my multiple concussions

There’s a lot of different parts. Background: I took a concussion baseline testing and my verbal processing started at 98th percentile and dropped to an alarming 13th percentile after, I did concussion therapy but scientifically it’s unclear how effective that is

- and if concussion is more brain bruise or brain parts irreparably disconnected. I also used to be a pretty good speller and still am if you ask me to spell something, but tweeting or writing I misspell and mix up and alarming amount of words with ones that sound similar

And I often process words as something similar to them and can’t figure out what I’m reading because of that. Ie teacher once spelled “gender roles” as gender rolls and I sat there for a good ten minutes trying to process

This has always been true to some extent, the most difficult comprehension task for me is never understanding implied meanings but weighing potential implied meanings against each other for realistic likelihood (this is exactly what’s going on with processing misspellings)

I had a lot of trouble with multiple choice in school. when prompted by teacher to evaluate each option verbally-would give the right reasoning for the correct option, but remember a small detail that made another option potentially correct& overweight it, choose that one instead

Also I hate to keep using IQ tests my psychologist administered when my teachers and parents were convinced I had some severe learning disability

but if they’re correct, from what I understand, my percentiles in all the subcategories was so intensely spread out that in and of itself qualified me for a learning disability lol So I guess there’s a good chance that influences my language abilitiespic.twitter.com/y5H0RIPSy5

no iq tests seem like a valid set of data here huuh your verbal has always struck me as v good on this site fwiw has it affected anything else, or just these elements of language?

Awe (^ω^) definitely reasoning skills across the board but I guess I probably smush those things under the label of language needlessly Idk I genuinely think I’m neuroatypical & that manifests as all sorts of weird things (textures of clothing can make me have a breakdown)
