Plenty of reasons to be inclined to trespass. Pride, lust, avarice--all the usual ones. Often it's just _easier_. When I experience pain caused by other people, my usual response is to avoid that person when I'm able. This is one common reaction; another is definitely aggression

of course i can picture it--I've known plenty of people like you. if I can't avoid them--if I'm cornered--of course I'll defend myself. but I don't pursue, and I don't have any strong inclination to lash out at uninvolved people like the paintballers.
