I think it was fine before about 2010 and then the PTSD discourse happened. People went “oh, this kind of applies to other experiences like being in an abusive relationship!” and now we’re at “oh, this is kind of like how my dad yelled at me when I forgot to walk the dog!”

I mean maybe in the edge cases! But one of the lessons of the combat related PTSD debate is that a lot of Trauma is probably physical brain damage from IED blast/husbands left hook while trauma lacks that physical component.

hmm I bet that's an important distinction but I bet a lot of people have some kind of what you might think of as "genuine" trauma without that kind of physical injury

I would definitely agree with that. I guess my main beef is that similar symptoms with different underlying causes should probably be semantically separated.
