The other terms you mentioned are not, in fact, the exact same thing. Mistress does not equal ... whatever the poly kids call it today. The fact is, there aren't good terms for it, so the nerds invented some pretty awful terms to meet their needs, as nerds are wont to do.

the even younger kids would just eyeroll and say "ugh, so cringe" which i think captures it pretty well

just finishing the quillette article, and in fact he seems to be calling for tradgenerates to save poly from the geodesic dome-dwellers currently consigning its reputation to cringeville. alas, gentrification is probably pretty unlikely.

"All of us here pursue traditional virtue but have some degenerate weakness, which itself is pretty trad." More seriously I think polyamory as a community is one of the worst forms of non-monogamy for serious relationships because it is a stable state of unstable relationships.

I think there are healthy ways to practice it, but they are more casual. I think assigning moral value to it as a preferred outcome is a trap. Don't do things that endanger your nuclear family or it's future. If you want to court other people, well, just don't have a parade.

this seems theologically risky if you have varying senses of morality in a population
