Interesting! I hadn't been aware this was a common view. Do you think it's a novelty in this age or a constant? To answer your question, for successful and conscientious men in particular I think I would appeal to (i) duty and (ii) the need for others to carry on your work.

i remember complaining about boomers ruining everything back in the late 80s, and i've read ancient greeks complaining about the softness of their children. also read the death toll in WW1 "lost generation" really kicked off the disruption of masculine socialization in the west.

that last from Paul McGuire's pretty interesting book, EXPERIMENT IN WORLD ORDER, (1948, long out of print). generation of kids with no fathers disrupted cultural transmission, weakening the west.

read it 15 years ago, my recollection isn't great, but I remember liking it. it was a reco from the chicagoboyz blog - mcguire was an australian intelligence officer, i think. it was mostly a history but there was some contemporary commentary and analysis.pic.twitter.com/aNjpYA1fXU
