whether this is net good for you depends on: 1. How good you are at getting impersonal transferable credentials 2. How much you enjoy or can function with local networks 3. How much you are likely to need to rely on a social network for support Autists are prolly net winners

hmm many Diversity and Inclusion efforts probably would have made [more sense than they do now however much you think that is] in a world where such local community networks were more important for Advancement

@selentelechia has observed that this has also been very bad for small geographies as a whole in that the most capable people are able to get credentialed and move out instead of staying and becoming local Pillars of the Community sort of higher efficiency in fish/pond sortingShow this thread -

anyway lots of wins fell out of this too, I am definitely a beneficiary myself but probably these local communities were load-bearing and we havent come up with any substitutes plane is taking off so uh /end

data I've seen suggests that people are actually moving less than we used to tho? with the exception of rootless cosmopolitan elites ofc

Can be squared if you think people are staying in place, but being slowly worn down in terms of status and reputation by a culture which now sets values at the international scale.
