although to be actually canceled with any kind of probability I think you have to be (i) paid more than 300k which feeds into (iii) below anyway, (ii) terribly dumb like damore level dumb, or (iii) have a public-facing job in teaching, journalism, or another pozzed industry

Was Damore actually dumb? I could be wrong, but, It was my understanding Google was actively soliciting feedback from the employees concerning the dearth of female engineers. Naive? sure. He assumed good faith.

his strategy was ineffective if what he was trying to do was save his job; he probably coulda just backed-down carefully and been contrite in the right ways, used the proper social justice language, etc

Maybe I'm the dumb one here, but, wasn't work sharing, team effectiveness, and a relatively flat organizational structure built into the ethos of Google? How would an engineer know that HR had injected a poison pill into the ecosystem? Genuinly curious.

companies who say they value criticism and diversity of thought are Lying "having a conversation" is "we are going to tell you what the line is" damore's not properly dumb just naive or perhaps a little autistic :/
