You could probably manage similar programs for (eg) immigrants, trans people, and so on Get people to buy into the system instead of having no recourse but to break it This seems like perhaps a missed opportunity for the right

Also for the right, ceding schools and colleges was probably a terrible dire mistake Fighting battles over sex ed and evolution (remember that?) was a terrible terrible idea Shoulda held firm on social studies and classics curricula Welp

I don't think that's true! Gay men are almost written out of LGBT at this point

If most of them wanted that, & could plug into the institution as a drop-in module, maybe. What it did in practice was to enable cascade of the LGBTQQIAAP2Setc as a pawn for the left to engage in further institutional, intersectional infection. Grit in the gears.

a straight-up one-time move from "shit to gay people" to "let them get married and be boring" would probably, counterfactually, be a good idea but we didn't get that instead we got a larger-context movement whose telos is "smash everything" using gay marriage as a cudgel
-
now that gay marriage happened the Everything Smashers have moved on to new moral crusades they can prosecute at the expense of the rest of the population; now gays are in the "at the expense" part instead of being the beneficiaries
