How much different would society be if sex ratios at birth were heavily skewed (say at least 2:1) in one direction or the other?

Probably depends where you start from. Post WW1 a number of countries had a generation heavily female skewed, but everyone knew it was a one off. Heavily skewed older generation is a permanent feature.

Also India and China are trying to play this out in real time, but this largely reflects the existing culture. It's not an equilibrium state.

tricky to answer cos the main test cases we draw from (china's one child policy, post ww1 europe) were deviations from the norm
