wonder whether people who are aggressive, interpersonally, realize they're basically disincentivizing people who are more relaxed from interacting with them think there are short term wins from aggression but my hunch is the long term costs are substantial and cumulative

It seems inarguable that a spectrum of aggression level is good for joint fitness. Groups and organizations where decisions can't be made quickly and relatively unilaterally have limited cohesion - understood as active cohesion toward an objective with opportunity costs.

Since the cost/benefit of an individual's default aggression level is dependent on its social context, where reception and feedback will to some extent be tuned in turn to their contribution to joint fitness, generalizations that don't take the latter into account are specious...
