Is it the norm to not teach economic history at the undergrad level? Wasn’t part of my major but it would have been incredibly valuable.

i wonder if intro economics classes are history classes that are pretending not to be micro, with its models that we know to be imperfect. macro, with its models that we know to be fairly outdated post-2008 would rather hear the history of the ideas than “this is how it works”

Debt by David Graeber was pretty mind-expanding to me I'm not authoritative on this, but my sense is that economics classes allude to a certain fake history – they tend to overlook that credit predates money for eghttps://twitter.com/visakanv/status/1065534592793305089 …

its complicated undergraduate macro is all trash, no one believes those models anymore, it's just familiarization with data concepts and math frameworks undergraduate micro is basically state of the art but less mathematical and missing a few flairs

Undergrad micro absolutely is not state of the art unless *looks eigen up and down* you're one of them applied people

Ah, I thought you meant undergrad. Still, though, MWG fails to cover the faddish topics of the day (naturally) and so cannot be state of the art

It also fails to cover more prosaic things, like decision theory (beyond the basics) or the modern approach to mech design

micro 101 is a decent distillation of basic models of markets a la the first (half? it's been a while) of MWG appropriate for early undergraduates
