i wonder if intro economics classes are history classes that are pretending not to be micro, with its models that we know to be imperfect. macro, with its models that we know to be fairly outdated post-2008 would rather hear the history of the ideas than “this is how it works”

its complicated undergraduate macro is all trash, no one believes those models anymore, it's just familiarization with data concepts and math frameworks undergraduate micro is basically state of the art but less mathematical and missing a few flairs

I really enjoyed this book by Robert Frank, who was contemporaries with Schelling and Akerlof. Wonderful educator who really cares about getting you to understand how to thinkhttps://twitter.com/visakanv/status/1033335780008058880 …

tangent-ish, if I were to recommend a economic history reading it would probably be The Passions and the Interests by Hirschman
