very useful and powerful meeting series exist that facilitate information sharing and increase efficiency, net many meetings however, possibly most are cargo cult meetings

people say this but i am not convinced just because a mtg seems unnecessary to one party doesn't mean it's not useful for another party and overall + cargo cults are obvious once you escape the cave. why does this not happen w/ mtgs, if such a big share is powered by delusion?

i'll buy the idea that organizations systematically select for employees that do too many meetings and that perverse incentives and broken efficiency filters keep that all going, but that's a slightly different thing than having most meetings be net negative or whatever

intending no disrespect, i wonder if this common claim about useless meetings is really more about people signalling their intelligence or employee quality etc, i.e. "i'm so good i don't need this silly meetings; they're only holding me back"
