Real talk What's their plan if the troops come? Can't imagine Beijing lets civilians carry small arms This isn't colonial America, with vast wilderness and guns Or Iraq, with vast cities and guns Or Vietnam, with vast jungles and an army Is the plan to die gloriously?

Are there bridges to HK that can be destroyed? Civilian means of destroying them at short notice? Is the Chinese Navy strong enough to establish a blockade? Surely they have amphibious landing craft for Taiwan that could be repurposed Any local armories that could be stormed?

Honestly I can see China just leveling the city with artillery before they would let them go This doesn't end well Even if China reestablished control without a fight--they wouldn't risk this again, no? Every Hong Konger a Uighur

in theory the Hong Kong government has to ask first before troops are deployed and in practice China has to follow some niceties of HK gov. HK gov is pro Beijing but not a unified bloc because it relies on business community for support due to the weird election system.

ending 1 country 2 systems openly would put china in a bad place diplomatically I think, Tiananmen was not pleasant. For now they don't want to send in the army if they can avoid it. But uh they might not manage to avoid it

FWIW it might lead to Taiwan declaring independence, although that might happen anyway now
