My favorite part of every struggle session at work is when whoever is running it says “this is a safe space. Whatever is said in this room doentl leave it” knowing full well that people will be gossiping about it five minutes after the session

and things said during it will be referenced during meetings for months after, held against people, etc. questions asked honestly during a “safe” session will be used against the asker as Proof they’re a bad person.

The thing is I think it sounds worse on here because I don’t talk about the parts I love. I love most of my job, but also no students in summer, so it’s just this kind of thing. I take it as par for the course.

Part of the issue is this is now the whole industry. It didn’t always used to be this way. So there is this overarching dark cloud it feels. I share these things in twitter because it seems like most people don’t realize what’s happening and are interested in it.
