This is kind of interesting tho If you block a major Politician's account it implies you don't expect retaliation greater than the resulting benefits So Does twitter expect the administration and/or Senate to not respond? Or do they anticipate a significant upside?https://twitter.com/politicalmath/status/1159522699867148288 …

Twitter expects no retaliation because its picked one of rhe 2 horses. No regulation would get through the Dem controlled house, assuming they've made their campaign donations and they only target Republicans.

I think it’s just misinformed AI (cheap labor in poorer countries) that picked the wrong guy to block and now they have to pretend that it’s the “algorithms” fault and promise it will never happen again.

I would usually assume incompetence over evil, but the fact that 1) it’s gone this long without any public comment from Twitter and 2) the tweet has not been restored makes me pause. A press release reading “oops, an automatic filter has to be adjusted” doesn’t take this long.

'Maybe this is just being dumb' is a good default answer for any large org/bus/gov 90% of the time. Orchestrating something clandestine and clever involves too many potential leaks and a risky cost benefit model most of the time. Could be possible but probably just 'being dumb'.

No downside, Repubs don't favor regulation, and only some Dems do. They score virtue points for blocking Mitch, but if they block Trump he'll be unable to tweet dumb things for Good People to criticize. Overall, they are clearly favoring and we all know. It can all flip, too.

republicansll regulate their enemies just as Dems will just usually business has been r-friendly not so much now nine times of ten the goal of regulation is either to protect or destroy, you know?
