I think this is why some of them asked for regulation - hoping for entry barriers to competition rather than full antitrust breakup.
-
I have heard them asking for regulations explicitly for several years. Wonder of DoD and DARPA and the cyberwarfare w China are weighing in or if this is just to show for the public. (?)

We'll see, this isnt the first time this has come up. And let's be honest, the last time they did it to Microsoft it didn't change much.
-
An additional thought I had this morning: this is the perfect timw for politicians to extort the tech companies leading up to 2020 elections. Milk the golden goose but they cant afford to kill(breakup) it.

always felt that the amazing thing about the tech biz is anyone can start programming and put shit on the internet and there's nobody out there saying "no" and it was this lack of regulation that made it so dynamic and so successful and able to conquer other industries
-
and maybe that's what it was like in say aerospace before aerospace got hooked on the twin opioid drips of enough regulation to freeze out competitors and enough subsidies to ensure profitability and the good times had to end eventually
