mathematics wasn't even that useful for engineering until 20th century... even then inventing e.g. the airplane involves zero math... and Europe's maritime global trade and colonization have nothing to do with math... what does this person even have in mind as a single example

Looking over list of historical inventions I don't see a single one that required any math at all until arguably electromagnetic stuff in early-mid 19th century, by which point Europe was already quite wealthy from colonialism
