im not totally sure about this specific story rather trying to untangle the impulse to be Angery at just discovering an opposing viewpoint you didnt know existed this seems to happen a lot ive been there for sure

i think deliberately adopting a play + explore mindset is probably helpful here as in many situations a new bizarre viewpoint is often an opportunity to learn something fun and (re)contextualize a bunch of ideas you already have or are familiar with

One thing I struggle with: I have a lot of bizzare-to-my-ingroup viewpoints (different ones for different ingroups!), but some of them are far enough beyond the pale of accepted ingroup discourse to trigger less-than-playful responses. I think this means I need an alt

yeah, I think this maybe comes back to weirdness points? gotta disclose weird views selectively for maximum impact while otherwise at least maintaining implicit Orthodoxy elsewhere
