In all seriousness, GoT has been in decline since S5, with S7 & 8 being particularly rushed bc D&D wanted to cram everything into as few episodes as possible. Since I’ve long been resigned to the state of GoT, the schadenfreude has more than compensated for any misgivings I hadhttps://twitter.com/punishedkomrade/status/1130315983174766593 …

As for why GoT suffered such a decline in quality, I think it’s bc Benioff & Weiss ran out of source material while also getting high on their own supply, not properly developing characters in favor of “this looks cool” & “what a twist”. Excuse me, “subverting expectations”

Basically the surprise vs suspense issue that comes up in horror movies. Ned losing his head was surprising bc a protagonist faced the realistic consequences of his actions for once, not bc lol so random “expectations: subverted”

There were other problems, like D&D’s seemingly innocuous decision to cut the fAegon Blackfyre storyline, which they prob didn’t anticipate would throw off the final act (tbh I didn’t either).
