good point. spectrum is scarce and doing auctions for it is brilliant but should view that in context with regulations around TV and radio technology my guess is spectrum markets and the entertainment landscape would look very different in the absence of free TV requirements

i always try to imagine what car companies would do if free radio wasn't a default thing that exists. would they strike deals with radio-content producers? buy them? would we see a complete transition to internet-only radio?

for historical reasons google auctions aren't DSIC right? they lucked into being almost DSIC through heuristics but now they can't become true DSIC because it would piss off too many stakeholders is my understanding
