Sometimes that means you can draw a practical conclusion -- "this intervention improves this outcome" -- without knowing how it works!

Relatedly, I think "humans can do better designs than biology b/c we can plan ahead" is clearly true but to lesser degree than some claim. Iterated design is Good Actually, you learn a lot about what works by actually trying things. e.g. pros of agile development over waterfall

it's a trade off. you get the ability to do things that seem impossible, but troubleshooting something that seems impossible is doubly impossible
