It’s weird to think about in hindsight, because it all seems so obvious now, but Class really woke me up to that aspect of the world. I grew up astonishingly blind to it

I think so. Felt poor as a kid (raised socially UMCish but felt lower materially because my parents were incredible skinflints) but it all seems really muted in retrospect. Remember my first time on the Coast and being appalled seeing gated communities adjacent to slums.

Minnesota is particularly egalitarian--my understanding is there are strong revenue sharing mechanisms across Minneapolis/St Paul school districts, and the public schools are generally quite good. Unsure about the direction of causality here.
