My guess is no one at eg Amazon wants to burn money and hours filtering Problematic content but the downside risk of breathless Amazon Sells Nazi Memorabilia / Twitter Hosts Nazis stories on the front page of NYT is a PR nightmare

have to be cagey about the second points full implications but basically every large tech company is at risk of adverse regulatory action and lawsuits, bureaucrats are overwhelmingly leftist, and Congressional leftists need to be actively appeased
