when you redistribute income, typically the aim is to assist people who have a hard time earning income in other ways; theres no targeting in UBI eg UBI doesnt discriminate between quadriplegics and trust fund kids

hm but aren't the high MTRs at low income levels for means-tested redistributions kind of an issue as well? iirc its around 80% at 30k, which seems absurd. if combined with the right other progressive tax structures, this doesn't seem like it has to be a problem

mtrs are important for sure yes one trick is to not have dumb income-based means testing schemes but then natch you get fraud or just implement a negative tax rate and let God sort it out Idk to be honest you're kind of talking me out of transfers entirely
