One can still respect the power of ritual and tradition without being reactionary tho. It requires some care and caution but it can certainly be done. Orthodoxy demands authority but just as easily the practices can be rooted in the community.

You do lose the assurance that the practice is perfectly preserved by that is largely delusional anyway, with a few exceptions (eg oral transmission of the vedic chant). You are guaranteed to have participated in the perennial human story tho, which is good enough for me.

Honestly, I think this is something the church is figuring out (about patterns, not about weed). Repetition in the context of community and society is some powerful stuff.
