My grandmother pronounced it with... 1.5 syllables? Like "crane", but with the tiniest wiggle in the middle of the "a" like it was almost-but-not-quite a syllable break.

NJ. But didn't have what one would consider a "Jersey accent". Her parents had been born in Germany, but I wouldn't say she sounded German, either. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

She also pronounced "roof" with the same vowel sound as "could". And would ask us to "outen the light". All connected? Double ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .
