Knights/kings are feudal patterns? Feudal implies stationary, isn’t “king and his round table” pattern even more common? Thinking about it, feudalism proper feels rare to me (if long-lived when it happens). Medieval Japan, medieval Europe, early (Illiad) Greece – is there more?

But yes little boys are *obsessed* with knights IME. Generally, fantasies seem to go to perceived top of hierarchy; e.g. if they play dinosaurs everyone is a t rex; they’ll work as big company owners etc. but it’s always knights, not kings.
