i dont think its cause specific just a profound hostility if you can be pattern matched to any kind of outgroup which maybe is just the broader world? and i can imagine how this tendency would develop too but it seems extremely self-defeating long-term

Disagreeing with someone on a Sacred Subject is blasphemy. Agreeing with somebody for the wrong (i.e. nondogmatic) reason is heresy. For the blasphemer, there may be forgiveness after public repentance and penance. For the heretic, there is only the stake.
