A plan to suppress native wages for PhD level workers requires bringing in far more labor than just “the brightest people from the outside world.” You could have most of them, too, and not have any effect on say, median wages.
i straight up dont care if phds are paid less because they have to compete globally i just dont
It's not the competition that concerns me. The policy seems *motivated* by its labor market effects, and some number of foreign-born PhDs will go back, meaning we spend resources to give their countries a boost. Better: just open the borders and let the chips fall where they may.
