i think the serious and explicit answer is to cultivate private virtue almost any lindy conception of virtue will probably suffice when I say it I think I try to mean: consider returning to an infinite game, ie playing for the sake of play rather than playing to win

A "Lindy" conception of virtue is just an intersection of all human practiced ethical systems, which amounts to not much of anything, except "don't murder, but here is a fat stack of codices in case you need to rationalize some murder."

It's hard to see what's there to formalizations of ethics, besides trite utilitarian generalisms like "don't steal [people will beat you up]" and complex social dances meant to do nothing but reinforce social stability of a particular hierarchy reproducing these ethics.

isnt a lot of rationalism about formalizing everything im pretty sure ive seen a lot of tweeting about rationalist ethics

I'd say that 'formalizing' is a lot deeper than 'building ontologies'. To a degree of logical formalization I'd say it's mostly focused on human friendly AGI
