Well, to be clear, taking an economist's viewpoint on this does require ascribing some mental model to the participants. The point is that the model is formalized and does not have much similarity in structure to the informal view of "moral agents."

The point is, operating with "virtues" and "vices" as fundamental elements of someone's mental processes seems like focusing on contextually-mediated epiphenomena, when the real meat is in agents' models of causality, degree of uncertainty and biologically-determined preferences.
