If I was in power I would impose such steep penalties on men who abandoned their children that it would make the Inquisition look like Amnesty International. https://twitter.com/TSearcaigh/status/1069507680912306176 …
has me sort of thinking i wonder how many cases exist where children would be better off without such parents i think i support the moral groundings of this policy but i worry about at least two unintended consequences :/

Parents keeping kids they shouldn't keep? It's a fair point. I suppose I see giving kids up for adoption differently to leaving the other parent in the lurch but I certainly wouldn't want to keep abusive assholes hanging around longer than necessary.

I’m currently working on day 6 of an 8 day child custody trial in California. It’s awful. And it’s awful in significant part because- and I have to be deliberately vague here- it is possible to want to have your children more than you love your children.

there was a study in some latino country about how children do better educationally if the criminal father is in jail. I realize educational attaintment isn't everything, criminals that go to jail or not based on judge mood a maybe feeble instrument etc. but it gives you an idea

beyond "violent criminals" and "really insane" I'm not seeing it tho. Most 'natural experiments' of fatherlessness that avoid genetic confounds do show bad effects.
