50% chance any given interaction results in a lecture from HR, possibly discipline, possibly being labeled discriminatory 1% chance any given interaction results in being labeled a groper or worse, possibly criminal charges, almost certainly career-destroying Interesting math

those numbers are arbitrary the point being, yes, fear-of-wrongful-accusation behavior is likely discriminatory at scale, may result in fairly negative consequences however if you're not rich and famous and can afford legions of attorneys, wrongful accusations WILL destroy you

Wrongful accusations don't need wrongdoing, so insecurities around things like "refusing to mentor someone because you're afraid she'll accuse you of groping" just reveal you're the kind of guy who thinks like a predator.

Look, I speak feelingly as someone who actually has been wrongfully accused of misconduct in an environment where I could not defend myself. Concerns about that are salient to me, but mentorship is not, in my experience, particularly correlated to false accusations.

I've also been falsely accused but more importantly I'm not going to martyr myself for some organizational aesthetic You're welcome to your private threat model
