Reminds me a bit of NJR/Crnt Affrs shtick Basically "how grad students see the world": infatuated with their own brilliance, believing they possess insight the world desperately needs, utterly unaware their lack of real-world experience is most obvious feature of their work
The trope of "academics have no idea what goes on outside of the ivory tower" is starting to wear itself out. Particularly the connected theory of grad students' experience and engagement with the outside world.
First, many either have prior experience or sit in the middle between industry/policy and academia. Second, "lived experience" isn't a bullshit requirement only when it's required by the left. No one has "lived experience" as an egregore.
You don't need to be an ant colony to understand behavior of ants.
Everything you say is perfectly true, but i still don't think 2 years in an IR program is really a sound basis for sweeping claims about "The collapse of the liberal order" I'm not saying 'all' grad-students suffer from delusion of competence; just that the phenomenon exists.
The notion that the liberal postwar order is collapsing is hardly his idiosyncratic invention.
Sure. And I bet he first heard about it 1.5 years ago. :)
"You bet wrong, son." is there some relevant body of work illustrating this?
please be nice to each other pals
Jonah, I apologize for busting your balls, and i look forward to reading your magazine. that said, i doubt i'll be the last person to ask that question.
