Thanks, it's all good. I don't have the experience with the right as I do with the left, but my sense is the right tends to go for more Buckley-expels-the-Birchers-style top-down purges, rather than the kind of house-to-house gangfighting you get on the left. I like hyphens.

It's hard to fit U.S. political parties on left-right axis before the 1970's, though the late 19th century Populists attempted to overthrow the, arguably, conservative Democratic party of the time. Also had pretty spooky resemblance to Trumpism, down to demographics.
