Been thinking about late 20C conservatism in the US (which incidentally I hated contemporarily) Crass bigotry (like eg against gay rights) was there for sure But I wonder if the talk about concern for Family Values was legit and they just alit upon . . .

the most policy-legible points they could Families really were/are(?) dissolving I bet compared to agrarian norms and the loss of that was apparent Thinking that the contemporary politics is really not about economic stagnation in the country but between folkways

Casting it as morally driven isn't quite right Hmm Late 20C liberalism seemed like it was about dissolving old folkways and replacing them with nothing Past and current conservatism about preserving old folkways Contemporary left about forcing new folkways on the country?

I would go further and posit the family as the only mechanism for good outcomes. When they try to replace it with institutions that should be adjunct (school, military, religious) outcomes quickly become pathological.

Loyalty and fidelity are greatly misunderstood things that are hard to quantify meaningfully. Of course not all families are good at this and parents definitely can/do fail at this

But I can't think of any other institution as powerful that is also capable of inculcating these things as effectively. The best I can do my male friends is treat them like my brothers, or a girlfriend the way I treat my mother.
